Rachael Harris To Star Opposite Chris Meloni In Fox Series ‘Surviving Jack’

EXCLUSIVE: Rachael Harris is is set as the female lead opposite Chris Meloni in Fox’s midseason comedy series Surviving Jack. The single-camera project, from Warner Bros. TV and Bill Lawrence‘ Doozer, is based on Justin Halpern’s book I Suck At Girls. It centers on a father, Jack Dunlevy (Meloni), and his teen son Frankie (Connor Buckley). Harris plays the Alpha-Mom, Joanne Dunlevy, who has decided to go back to law school, somewhat reluctantly leaving the care of her kids to her brash husband. The role was recast after being played by Alex Kapp Horner in the pilot. (you can watch the series’ trailer below) Harris recently starred opposite David Spade in the ABC comedy pilot Bad Management, which was in serious contention for a series pickup. She also recurs on USA drama Suits and did an arc on Fox comedy New Girl. On the feature side, Harris is probably best known for role as Ed Helms’ girlfriend in The Hangover. She also starred in the indie Natural Selection, earning an Independent Spirit Award nomination, as well as the Diary of A Wimpy Kid trilogy. Harris, repped by ICM Partners and Principato Young, recently joined indie Kitchen Sink, reuniting her with her Natural Selection director Robbie Pickering, and next will be seen in the Yahoo! comedy series We Need Help.

  • I honestly cannot think of a more well-suited replacement. I just listened to her appearance on How Did This Get Made? the other day, and was thinking “it’s so unfair that Rachael Harris isn’t on TV”. Now she is! Congrats!

  • Like her, but SURVIVING JACK and BAD MANAGEMENT were two of the worst shows this pilot season. Meloni is not a sitcom actor.

    • You say that, but at the LA Screenings (for program buyers from around the world) Surviving Jack received a very positive response from the foreign buyers, who were surprised because the show had no prior hype at all.

  • Alex is funnier. Recastings are lame, let the creators have the cast they want.

    • Yes, the Old Christine alum who mostly played the role as a straight man is funnier than the Hangover/Reno 911/Daily Show/The Office/New Girl alum who happens to be a talented writer and comedian on the side. Makes perfect sense.

  • Something that seems to elude networks and producers is that for a comedy to work, it has to be FUNNY. That should be a “duh!” and it always amazes me that it’s not. The only glimmer of funny in this trailer comes from the poor woman they fired.

  • @RTV obviously you have never seen Rachel in Natural Selection. Educated opinions require same. See it.

  • Rachel is hilarious. This was the best pilot of the season and with Rachel joining the cast, it’s going to be an amazing show.

  • Show looks awful – starting with the horrible casting with Meloni as the father and that older looking girl as the daughter.

  • I don’t know much about this actress but Chris is great at both drama and comedy. He’s the reason that I’ll be tuning in. Since it’s a single camera show, they may need to sharpen up on the editing though as the preview had some camera angle changes that did not work.

  • “Meloni is not a sitcom actor”? Meloni is very talented in all genres, from comedy to drama and he plays both heroes and villains convincingly. He’s a show stealer with his gapingly obvious charisma, sex appeal and hilarious sense of humor. So I don’t know what you’ve been watching or what qualifies you to judge what he can do. Don’t watch if you don’t like him, but the rest of world will be enthralled with his performance, as always.
