Eva Longoria Producing NBC Comedy Project Inspired By Sex Therapist Laura Berman

EXCLUSIVE: NBC has put in development a multi-camera comedy from writer-producers Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont (Made Of Honor), with Eva Longoria attached to executive produce. Inspired by the life of relationship therapist Laura Berman, the untitled project centers on a female sex & relationship therapist who helps patients deal with intimacy, love and unusual fetishes — but that’s nothing compared to navigating the relationships with her ex-husband, his new girlfriend and her own mother, all while raising her two young sons. Universal TV is producing. The comedy falls under the first-look deal Longoria and her UnevliEVAble Entertainment inked with Uni TV last fall. Kaplan, Elfont and Longoria executive produce with UnveliEVAble’s Ben Spector and Freestyle’s Francesca Silvestri and Kevin Chinoy. Berman, who has a show on OWN, In the Bedroom With Dr. Laura Berman and is a regular guest on The Dr. Oz Show, serves as a co-exec producer. Kaplan, Elfont and Longoria are with CWW; Berman is with ICM Partners and ROAR.

  • What exactly does it mean when a star like this is attached as an executive producer? Does she just put up money? It doesnt sound like she came up with the idea or is writing or starring in it so what exactly does it mean that shes EPing it. Same with Devious Maids…I know it was all Latinas, but did she just invest money and thus helps make decisions or what. Thanks

    • An actor never puts up their own money for anything. It means her “creative executive”/assistant occasionally gives notes and if this thing is ever on the verge of getting picked up she puts in a personal call to the head of NBC to say how much she believes in this project.

      • In other words, she does squat in exchange for a regular paycheck if the show is picked up.

        • But credit where credit is due (no pun intended). It is her first look deal with U that put the creator in front of a buyer.

  • I’d give this a chance. Can’t Hardly Wait is a really underrated movie.

  • What’s that, you say? A therapist whose own life is a mess? Brilliant! Says the caveman who chiseled it on a wall a thousand years ago.

    • Oh really? Don’t you realize that’s nothing compared to navigating the relationships with her ex-husband, his new girlfriend and her own mother, all while raising her two young sons!

You can go work on The Flintstones. We are going to be working very hard on the Laura Berman show to make it as good as we possibly can. So there.

      • Still sounds like a remake of the Shelley Long sitcom Good Advice. You probably haven’t heard of that one because it bombed and got yanked off the air like this one will.

  • If this is anywhere as good as that other Eva Longoria involved ratings smash known as Real Love-then we are in for a treat. :)

  • Why doesn’t this crazy woman just give up already as she’s been failing at almost anything she does or touches, since that drivel Housewives show ended a few years ago. She’s already had a failure of a show on this network, but yet these nimrods at Nothing But Crap still want to do business with her? REALLY?! She’s as useless as a three dollar bill with a big mouth attached to her.

    • Why are you so bitter? She’s a human too! People fail at multiple things in life but they always get back up and try again! That’s what she is doing. She is not letting the failure of one show get to her. Stop being so rude and taking out your anger on forums please. It’s very disheartening!
