CBS Developing Female Secretary Of State Drama From Barbara Hall & Morgan Freeman

EXCLUSIVE: While NBC is grappling with controversy triggered by its planned miniseries about Former Secretary Of State Hillary Clinton, CBS is putting in development a drama series about a fictional female Secretary of State. Madame Secretary, from Joan Of Arcadia creator Barbara Hall and Oscar winner Morgan Freeman, explores the personal and professional life of a maverick female Secretary of State as she drives international diplomacy, wrangles office politics and balances a complex family life. Hall is writing the project, from CBS TV Studios and Freeman’s Revelations Entertainment. She is executive producing with Revelations’ Freeman, Lori McCreary and Tracy Mercer. Hall is with UTA, Brillstein Entertainment and Ziffren Brittenham; Freeman is with CAA. NBC’s mini Hillary, which has led to the network’s exclusion from GOP primary presidential debates, recounts Clinton’s life as a wife, mother, politician and cabinet member from 1998 to the present, including her four-year stint as Secretary of State. The project is still looking for a studio after a deal with Fox TV Studios fell through.

    • Because she isn’t divorced on this show and she’s not gonna run for president and the show sounds like it will be more about the job.

      • CBS doesn’t want one hour shows about a woman on their network. The Good Wife is the only show on CBS with a sole female lead. NCIS, Criminal Minds, CSI, The Mentalist, Elementary, Hawaii 5-0, Blue Bloods all have women in tight jeans running around in secondary roles with men driving the plot. Women under 35 that is. Men on CBS can be any age or any race. But they better not be gay — another big Moonves no. I hope Hall is getting paid a lot of money not to have her show picked up. She’s a terrific writer.

    • Good, then Greg Berlanti can apologize to Barbara Hall for ripping off Joan of Arcadia for Eli Stone.

  • It sounds like “Commander in Chief”, which I liked until the insipid personal stories torpedoed the whole thing…

  • If it’s not run by The Good Wife folks than who cares.

They are the only ones who have created anything worth noting on CBS besides college sports.
