‘Twilight Saga’s Kristen Stewart Lands Leads In ‘Camp X-Ray,’ ‘Sils Maria’

Kristen StewartEXCLUSIVE: Kristen Stewart has committed to star in back to back projects shooting this summer. She will star in Camp X-Ray, a politically charged drama written and directed by Peter Sattler, and she will also star in the Olivier Assayas-directed Sils Maria.

In Camp X-Ray, Stewart will play a young soldier who escapes her suffocating small town by joining the military, only to find that she isn’t going for a tour of duty in Iraq as she hoped. Instead, she’s sent to Guantanamo. Met with hatred and abuse from the Muslim men in her charge, she forges an odd friendship with a young man who has been imprisoned at Gitmo for eight years. The film’s being produced by Gina Kwon and Sophia Lin, and exec produced by David Gordon Green, Lindsay Williams and Ellen Goldsmith-Vein. Production begins late summer.

Stewart will join Juliette Binoche and Chloe Moretz in Sils Maria, the CG Cinema-produced English language film that Assayas wrote for his Summer Hours star Binoche. The film explores middle age and that introspective period where one questions how they’ve spent their life so far and what they’ve accomplished. The title refers to the Swiss setting, and Stewart plays the assistant to Binoche’s character, an actress who becomes obsessed with a young actress (Moretz) playing the role that made the older actress famous when she was young. The film shoots this summer in Europe. IFC acquired this film for distribution just before Cannes.

Stewart is repped by Gersh and McKuin Frankel Whitehead, and Sattler is repped by UTA, Gotham Group and attorney Adam Kaller.

    • I hope you are being sarcastic…Kristen Stewart is easily one of the top ten worst actors I have ever seen. She can only portray one character and it’s a horrible one. She acts the same in every movie.

      • Kiristen is a great actress–if you don’t like her then don’t read about her–and keep you stupid comments to yourself.Your probably are a boring person and wish you were as beautiful as Kristen.
Kristen you have an amazing fan base and we all love you and wish you much happiness

      • Michael, how sad you are. Please view Kristen in,’The Cake Eaters’, and perhaps, ‘Adventureland’, then get back to us.

      • I guess we will see. Besides it is a matter of opinion about her acting. I have liked Kristen in everything she has played in. She has done other movies beside Twilight.

    • I agree. Glad to see KStew will be back to work soon. About time she focuses on her work boys come and go and she is young.

  • The army flick sounds like it could be really powerful. As for the second one, seeing two popular young actresses (Kristen Stewart and Chloe Grace Moretz) together will be incredible. Glad to see KS advancing well beyond Twilight. She’s always been a talented girl (see indie work) and I just never understood the hate.

    • Kristen has done some stupid things but i don’t know many celebrities that haven’t. The majority of the hate she gets comes from the women who have pegged Rob as their dream guy and couldn’t stand the fact that Kristen was with him.

Unfortunately, Camp X-Ray sounds like it could turn into a typical liberal propaganda piece like we see so much these days. Hopefully they won’t go that route.

      • When did Chloe Moretz begin garnering top billing over Kristen Stewart? If I’m not mistaken this is the second time Stewart has taken over Mia Wasikowska’s sloppy seconds roles. The first being Big Shoe which failed to secure financing at Cannes for 2 years running. Going forward this is a big problem for Stewart who is seemingly getting left in the dust by her fellow contemporaries (Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Stone, Shailene Woodley to name a few). I wonder if it’s bad management or Kristen Stewart simply doesn’t have the ability to pick winning scripts. I wouldn’t classify these new roles as moving her forward post Twilight. Camp X Ray has the potential to be very controversial and is not the type of project to be handled by a graphic designer turned director. I would urge everyone involved to do extensive research into the military and military prisoner side of the issue.

        • well for one thing she put her career on hold for a while. When she decided to begin working again, she chose roles that interested her. The fact that Mia was once associated with the project is just coincidence. I also suspect she didn’t want to be away from her BF. So your comment on sloppy seconds does not apply. Besides roles come and go all the time dues to all kinds of reasons.

  • Because people tend to hate her because she doesn’t care and she hot and she’s dating the hottest guy in Hollywood and ….. The list can go on.

    • No, I think they hate her because she cannot act.

      • Who said that KSTW cannot act? She is a very good actress, you people need to take off the blinders and quit putting people down.

        • “quit putting people down”

      • If Bob Hoskins, Ray Winstone, Toby Jones, Eddie Marsan, Nick Frost, Johnny Harris and Charlize Theron as well as the producer of Alice in Wonderland which stars Johnny Depp all say Kristen Stewart can act – then who the heck are you to say she can’t? WHO ARE YOU?!!!!!

      • can’t act? Strange cause last time I checked she was still one of the most popular, highest paid actress working. Not bad for not being able to act. So your comment means nothing since it is based on hate and not facts.

    • don’t know if you hear but Kristen & Rob split however she is extremelt hot and beautiful and a great actress–someday people that knock her talent will eat those words–I loved all her movies of course I am a little older than some of you kids, but in time you too will realize her acting skills. Even R-Patz knows how talented she is–he said it himself. so sad he wasn’t man enough to get past her kissing RS–sure she made a bad choice and she has paid dearly for it so much hatred towards her, but she will rise above it all and be the one of the greatest actress’ of her generation. Love you Kristen be strong be wise

  • Wow… Pretty ballsy ripping on Gitmo prisoners considering the controversy surrounding the prison and our abhorrent policies in regards to the detainees. Not sure what the second movie is all about, but I’m fairly certain I won’t see either of these films.
