Nicki Minaj Also Confirms ‘American Idol’ Exit

The Mariah Carey-Nicki Minaj American Idol rivalry carried over to the divas’ departure from the show, with Minaj stepping on Carey’s toes and announcing her own departure on Twitter shortly after Carey had done the same, also on Twitter. “Thank you American Idol for a life changing experience!,” Minaj wrote. “Wouldn’t trade it for the world! Time to focus on the Music!!! Mmmuuuaahhh!!!”

Minaj joins fellow judges Carey and Randy Jackson on the list of Idol departures as the veteran series wrapped its lowest-rated season. We’ve yet to hear from judge Keith Urban and executive producer Nigel Lythgoe, both of whom are rumored to also depart. Fox and Idol producers seem to have already moved on, with Jennifer Hudson in talks for a spot on the judging panel next season, possibly alongside other well-known Idol alums.

“Nicki Minaj is a superstar who brought a level of honesty and passion to American Idol and who had a tremendous positive impact on so many contestants this season,” Fox and Idol producers FremantleMedia and 19 Entertainment said in a joint statement. “Given her extremely busy career, we understand and respect her decision and wish her the best.”

  • So glad to hear of the exit of the 3 worst judges. Hope they keep Keith Urban because he is a definite asset in the judges’ chair.

  • Honestly it’s time to cancel the show. Let it go out with some dignity.

  • I can’t stand Nicki she’s pure trash. I can’t imagine Idol could go any lower than Nicki, even though Keith Urban was close to the bottom as well!

  • While I’m up for more drag queens on TV -Bravo can’t be the only place for them- this game show has run its course. FOX only brings it back because it prints money for the 13-24 demo.

The show contributes nothing to the music it claims its all about.

  • If we plot the stabs of celebs vs the quality of the contestants, what’s the graph data look like? What a joke this whole thing is. Seacrest proves his intelligence by stepping back…

  • She was much better than I thought she would be. At least she was honest with them. But either get good people than can judge without the stupid comments and attitude or just cancel it already . Thank God Mariah is gone
