Henry Cavill In Talks For ‘Man From U.N.C.L.E.’ Lead

Sources confirm that talks are in a very early stage with Henry Cavill to replace Tom Cruise as the lead in The Man From U.N.C.L.E. Deadline’s Mike Fleming reported last week that Cruise was scheduled to star in the Warner Bros’ film with Armie Hammer, but he has exited to focus on producing and starring in Mission: Impossible 5. Guy Ritchie is directing the film that was inspired by the original TV series that ran from 1964-68, with Robert Vaughan and David McCallum playing Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin, two agents of the United Network Command for Law Enforcement. Cavill stars in the Superman reboot Man Of Steel that’s slated to bow June 14 via Warner Bros. He is repped by CAA and United Agents.

  • Armie and Henry? Too much hotness for one film.

  • #1. I worship the ground Henry Cavill walks on.

Good lord, let this project die already!

  • This is a good get for Guy. The name should draw additional attention to the movie following MoS.

I do not believe Cavil will add anything other than exposure to this movie. Nothing against him, but Guy Richie movies (excluding Sherlock Holmes) are made great by the supporting roles. Cruise/Cavil, there won’t be too much difference.

By my count Richie made 3 good movies prior to Sherlock Holmes and they were all essentially the same. This will likely be Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels/Snatch/Rock’n'Rolla all over again. So I’ll enjoy it.

    • Rock’n’Rolla was shit.

      • Yeah, I enjoyed Ritchie’s previous crime films, but that one left me cold.

        • Did you see Revolver? It preceded Rock’n'Rolla. Revolver is how, unwatchably, bad a Guy Richie movie can be. Rock’n'Rolla was a monumental improvement on it.

      • I was referencing it more for the stylistic and intersecting storyline premise it shares with LSATSB and Snatch. I thought it was good, but I’d agree it was vastly inferior to the other two.

  • Great choice. Current. Sexy. And a good actor.

  • How do you go from Tom Cruise (who was miscast) to Henry Cavill, who is hot, but cam’t act?

    Comment by Michael — Tuesday May 28, 2013 @ 6:52pm PDT
    • Agreed. Henry Cavill has been lousy and wooden in everything I have seen him.

      • Just wait until you see him in Man of Steel…needless to say he does an excellent job of acting like a piece of steel. At least if he were ‘wooden’…he might have shown some warmth!

      • He cant act, that’s true. Big mistake for leading him in Man of Steel, and now developing career for him. Even worse than Gosling, only pretention, no talent.

  • Cavill is perfect casting he looks like Robert Vaughn and he was the original Napoleon Solo. Cavill will be a big star a month from now Man of Steel is going to be a giant hit and Uncle will also be very big.
