Joe Biden Stresses Call For Studies On Violent Video Games

Vice President Joe Biden today reiterated the administration’s call for studies on violent video games and possible links to real-life violence during a Google video chat, TheHill.com reported. Biden, who met two weeks ago with representatives of the entertainment industry, pointed out there is no concrete data on video games and possible links to violence. The CDC is prohibited from conducting research on gun violence because of a congressional ban on spending funds on studies that may advocate gun control. In addition to reimposing the federal ban on assault weapons and requiring universal background checks on firearms buyers, the White House plan released last week asked Congress to appropriate $10 million for the CDC to study gun violence, including possible links to violent video games and media images. Biden said he thinks special interest groups “are afraid of facts”, adding “let these people go out and look at the pathology that’s behind this, if there is a pathology related to gun violence” — and “let the facts lead where they will”.

  • “The CDC is prohibited from conducting research on gun violence because of a congressional ban on spending funds on studies that may advocate gun control.” Evidence that the NRA has infiltrated our government and nothing will ever be done on gun control. Our Congress sucks!

  • There are shootings every single day in this country, you putz. Our country’s murder rate is 4x higher than that of England’s and 6x higher than Germany’s. Over 85% of the homicides in this country are carried out with a firearm.

    • I can garauntee those murders are carried out by ILLIGALLY obtained firearms. But no ones to admit that. Most people think that banning firearms will solve the problem and it won’t seeing as how criminals don’t follow rules. Drugs are illegal and run rampant in this country. Time to find other solutions and stop pointing the figuring and playing the blame game.

  • Part of the problem in this country is displayed right here on these posts. We all have to be the smartest person in the room and everyone else is a putz or moron. No one has an ounce of civility, maturity or humility.

  • Nothing wrong with a study but Im sure they will fund no correlation. Think about all the people that play these games. besides video games can’t and don’t kill.. guns do.

  • God forgive us if we look at the real penetrating issues. Maybe we should take a look at the personal life/divorce of parents/amount of time spent with family/gun ownership/bullying of shooters? No, never mind that would be way too much work. Let’s just say it’s video games or movies or music or comics or whatever is in the zeitgeist.
