It’s Official: Time Warner To Carry NFL Net

The National Football League and Time Warner Cable Inc. resolved a nine-year impasse with an agreement that brings the league’s NFL Network and RedZone Channel to millions more U.S. homes. NFL and the nation’s second-largest cable system operator announced the multiyear deal late yesterday but did not disclose terms. Under a programming partnership Time Warner also made a deal for Bright House Networks to carry NFL and RedZone. Carriage begins today but the first live game TWC customers can watch will be Thursday’s matchup between the Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns.

  • Yay. Still not really enjoying Thursday night football. (sunday/monday is enough) But at least it’s on.

  • This is huge for PAC12 NETWORK.

DIRECT TV, which won’t carry PAC12, threaten to black out bars that ALSO got Time Warner. Bars had to choose PAC12 or NFL. (no brainer.)

Now, they can switch to Time Warner… Unless DIRECT TV relents.

  • As a moderate NFL fan who is also a TW Cable subscriber, I have very mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, I’m glad I’ll finally be able to watch the games. On the other hand, I know that it ultimately means that my cable bill is going to go up even more. And I feel bad for everyone who’s a TW Cable subscriber who doesn’t care about football but who will nonetheless have to pay for it.

    • The majority of your cable/satellite bill goes towards sports. ESPN, Fox Sports, MLB Network, NBA Network, NHL Network, etc. The addition of the NFL will cost you about $3/month, and if you like football, it will be worth it.

Everyone who has cable/satellite pays for channels they don’t watch. It’s just life.

  • Thanks for getting this done in time for me to watch my Giants. Not.

  • On The Fence, it’s not as if the NFL Network is the singular cause of rising cable prices. That’s a horrible correlation with tremendously flawed logic. And frankly, football is by far and away the most American of sports, our new national pasttime, with the largest revenue generation. And also, you might be a communist. Or a Cowboys fan. Boo.

  • OK DirecTV, get off your ass and get the Pac-12 Network approved. If I don’t get my college football, I’m not going to be a happy consumer.

  • Give me the sports channels, music channels that actually play music like GAC, VH1 classic, and definitely palladia, and the channels that show the auction and pawn stars shows, and ill be happy. The heck with all the news and reality channels.
