Fox Buys Family Comedy Starring Heather McDonald & Produced By Chelsea Handler
EXCLUSIVE: Chelsea Handler has teamed with comedian Heather McDonald, writer and performer on her E! talk show Chelsea Lately, for a comedy based on McDonald’s upcoming book My Inappropriate Life. McDonald is set to star in the single-camera project, which has sold to Fox. It reunites the production entities behind Handler’s NBC comedy Are You There, Chelsea? — Warner Bros TV, studio-based Werner Entertainment and Handler and Tom Brunelle’s Borderline Amazing.
Co-written by McDonald and Dava Savel (Will & Grace), My Inappropriate Life chronicles McDonald’s experience with a stay-at-home husband, two boys and a half-Asian stepdaughter. Tom Werner, Mike Clements, Handler, Brunelle and Savel executive produce, with McDonald co-executive producing. McDonald, who has been on Chelsea Lately since its 2007 launch and also appears on spinoff After Lately, is with WME and ROAR. Borderline Amazing is with CAA; Savel is with APA.
Heather is an amazing talent. She’s so well suited to a sitcom, this will be a success.
she is a bore –
how bad was CH show?
Go Heather!!!!!
Congratulations Heather!
just reading about this made me laugh already
Poor Heather.
Sarah’s book, Life as I Blow It, was also bought to be produced as a series.
After the “Are You There, Chelsea?” nightmare, I’d say Heather’s chances are gloomy with Handler at the helm!
Handler takes pride in her young, unintelligent audience (read the responses to Handler’s posts on Facebook!) and that audience doesn’t translate to mainstream, network TV.
Everything that Chelsea Handler touches has an immediate source of attention because of her teenaged, Chelsea Lately demographic, but then fails miserably. From her “Pretty Wild” reality show where the main character was arrested in real life as part of the “Bling Ring” that broke into Orlando Bloom’s house to her latest, “Are You There, Chelsea?” Handler has been a bust. The movies she’s appeared have shown clearly, that she can not act. Her production has been less than stellar.
Chelsea has her fans, and I’m sure Heather will capitalize on that because of association. After that fails and they, too, realize that Chelsea Lately fans don’t have the attention span to pay attention to a ‘sit-com’ where they actually have to pay attention, McDonald’s show will fail too.
Unfortunately, for comedians latching onto a crude, slightly famous comedian, for fame is also what brings their demise.
What happened to ‘Are You There, Chelsea?’
Go Heather! Much deserved.
That is so great can’t wait to see it!
Well they’re starting off on the right foot with 5 EP’s and a Co-EP ‘star’.
