Apple Seeks $535M More From Samsung
Apple has asked a judge for an additional $535 million in its U.S. patent fight with Samsung Electronics Co. A jury last month awarded Apple $1.05 billion in ruling that Samsung had willfully violated 5 of 7 Apple patents. Apple has requested a permanent injunction against sales of Samsung’s infringing products. “The harm to Apple was deliberate, not accidental,” Apple attorneys said in court papers filed in U.S. District Court in San Jose. Samsung responded by asking for a new trial.

Umm, Apple is now just being a bully.
Speaking as a guy who has put together computers for visual fx:
Apple did not create the smart phone and the tablet was out a long time before apple put out the ipad. All apple does is package there stuff nicely. Apple creates ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. That said, they do put together the best parts for there products. That said, every single thing they are known for was out a long time before they ever put there “version”/repackage on the market.
Oh come on Apple, seriously, look at it this way, Samsung are clearly complimenting the designs over the iPad and phones you make, thats why they are making what they are making, no-one can really match apple’s electronic and creative capabilities, but seriously… lay off Samsung, what are you going to sue them for next, for using a certain shaped button on their washing machines…?
Yes, it’s perfectly ok for a Korean company to rip off American ideas. IDIOT!
How many more Chinese sweat shops can $535m open?
Apple = Evil Empire….they have a monopoly of the sweatshops
Before Coke, all soda bottles appeared indistinguishable Laudanum jars. After Coke, all soda bottles look like Coke bottles – curvaceous like a woman. Or they would have, except Coke was able to defend its trade dress patents. So Moxie and Pepsi had to differentiate. But when Apple seeks to defend it’s designs, it is universally mocked.
On the other hand, nobody complains when Nascar racer #2 benefits from drafting behind the pole position vehicle. So which is a better metaphor for Software IP – Coke bottles or Nascar racers? Neither?
Samsung should pay up and count itself lucky that Apple is still sourcing components from the Korean manufacturer for the iPhone 5, new iPad and Macintosh computers.
What exactly did Apple make?
Apple doesn’t make any of it’s hardware. They design software and create pretty packages to put the components in. I will credit Apple for surveying current technologies and arranging them in a manner which was aesthetically pleasing and easy to navigate.
But when you speak of innovation, they are not responsible for any of the technologies that made the iPhone possible. Capacitance (touch) screens have been around for decades. Gorilla glass made the incredibly durable glass technology that is now ubiquitous among smart phones. Flash memory was developed by Toshiba in the 80s which is what gave the phone it’s battery life. The processor isn’t even made by Apple.
If you were even aware of the patent claims they filed, you would understand how superficial their claims were. This judgment is nothing but a rebuke of our broken and ridiculous intellectual property laws.
