Rush Limbaugh: Batman Villain Was Named “Bane” To Hurt Mitt Romney

Rush Limbaugh Dark Knight RisesThe Clear Channel radio personality said in today’s broadcast that the makers of Warner BrosThe Dark Knight Rises are surreptitiously trying to brainwash audiences by naming the film’s villain “Bane.” You know, like Mitt Romney’s former employer: Bain Capital. Rush Limbaugh says that moviegoers — especially “a lot of brain-dead people, entertainment, the pop culture crowd” – are “gonna hear Bane in the movie and they’re gonna associate Bain. The thought is that when they start paying attention to the campaign later in the year, and Obama and the Democrats keep talking about Bain, Romney and Bain, that these people will think back to the Batman movie… There are some people who think it’ll work. Others think you’re really underestimating the American people to think that will work.” Limbaugh adds: “You may think it’s ridiculous, I’m just telling you this is the kind of stuff the Obama team is lining up. The kind of people who would draw this comparison are the kind of people that they are campaigning to. These are the kind of people that they are attempting to appeal to.”

Batman comics introduced Bane in 1993. Actor Robert Swenson played the villain in the 1997 film Batman & Robin that starred George Clooney.

You can find the transcript on Limbaugh’s website. Here’s the audio, captured by Media Matters, a progressive watchdog group:

    • That’s right, thanks for reminding me: Bane WAS created by a conservative. (Some sources say Nolan’s a conservative, too; it’s actually hard to read his politics based on his work, which is probably intentional ).
Admittedly, Joel Schumacher, who FIRST brought the character to the big screen in 1997′s BATMAN AND ROBIN,may NOT be a republican.

    • So, he thinks the person who would vote based on some subliminal name-association strategy is more idiotic than the person who believes Obama’s doing it in the first place?

    • Lol! seriously? wow. Bane has been a character for years. he has nothing, I REPEAT, nothing, to do with politics in the united states. this guy is a complete idiot if he truly believes a comic book character conceived almost a decade prior is being used to smear the name of a political candidate…

    • I love how just when you think Rush has proved how stupid he is – he finds one more way. I love this guy, he is endless hours of entertainment. If I were doing home health care I would wish everyone was as entertaining as this guy. Crazy old men who think stuff means other stuff … I think he ate too many skittles personally and they affected his brain. Rush is his own brand of crazy and that’s the truth.

  • And I’m sure the fact that Bane first appeared as a Batman villain in 1993 is all part of Obama’s plan…..

    • Of course! He created the character in 1993 because he knew that it would come in handy in 2012. He’s the one who told Nolan to go for Batman Begins four years before his election. He’s just THAT good!

    • That’s just ingenius Star trek type sh%t! Maybe Obama can travel back in time to 1993 to have the villian renamed Bush!

I don’t think Rush is good with his comics references; but he may have something with how Dems might work the campaign. On the republican side, four years have been spent criticizing and blaming Obama’s behavior and policies with few definitive selling solutions: sorry Mitt you have work to do.

And of course the voter is not stupid.

That’s why they will believe it.
They already believe a plot started before the President was born to get him elected 50 years ago.
Something 20 years old is just the next stage of the plan to conspiracy psychos.

    • I like how he added at the end… “You may think it’s ridiculous, I’m just telling you this is the kind of stuff the Obama team is lining up.” …what kind of stuff exactly there Rush? The kind of stuff you completely made up? It’s like: Obama kills puppies because he thinks it will win him the election. No he doesn’t, Rush. Well he’s doing nasty shit LIKE that, trust me.

The irony is that the bullshit he made up – about subliminal messages so ridiculous no one will believe them – will be believed by his dumbass followers.

Seriously this is why America is tearing itself apart. Sad.

    • FWIW I don’t think Limbaugh actually believes this stuff (or the majority of the truly crazy stuff he says) – he just knows his listeners will, and every time his listeners get a little more angry he gets a little more rich. He’s not a (complete) idiot … just completely cynical and disingenuous.

      • /\ This. This x1000. Guys like Limbaugh and Beck aren’t as stupid as they seem. They are just trolls who say things to get attention because the more attention they get the more money they receive. We are best off treating them as we do any troll on the internet, by ignoring them.
