HBO Now Targeting Fox News’ Roger Ailes With TV Movie Produced By MSNBC Rivals

UPDATE: HBO Not Proceeding With Fox News’ Roger Ailes TV Movie Produced By MSNBC Rivals: “CNN Affiliation” Cited As The Reason

Roger Ailes HBOEXCLUSIVE: HBO appears obsessed by GOP Conservatives. There have been movies about the 2000 Bush vs Gore election standoff and Sarah Palin and most recently a TV series featuring George W Bush’s severed head. Now HBO has done a secret deal for an Untitled Roger Ailes Project. It’s based on the upcoming manuscript by media writer Gabriel Sherman who has written two cover stories for New York magazine on Ailes and Fox News, including his mammoth article “The Elephant In The Green Room” which came out a little more than a year ago and prompted complaints from the Fox News CEO. Last year, Sherman signed a book contract with Random House tentatively titled “The Loudest Voice in the Room: An Inside Account of the Rise of Fox News”. I’ve also learned that executive producing this latest HBO project are two of Ailes’ competitors: Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, the co-hosts of MSNBC‘s Morning Joe. NYC-based Hotchkiss and Associates made the HBO deal for the film rights to Sherman’s book on behalf of the Ross Yoon Agency. Scarborough’s and Brzezinski’s producing deal was negotiated by WME Entertainment, the Hollywood agency run by Ari Emanuel who is a Democratic activist (and the brother of Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, the former Obama White House chief of staff).

None of this has been announced yet because sources tell me Sherman is still researching the book and plans to finish writing it by the end of the summer for a 2013 publishing date. “Nothing much to say. No book yet to read. No script. We’ll wait to see what the script looks like and then decide whether to develop further,” a cagey HBO exec explained to me. It’s commonplace for Time Warner’s premier pay TV channel to sign up books before they’re published and then turn them into TV movies. In this TV movie, a source tells me, ”HBO prefers to take on Fox News through Ailes. The idea is that it should make Fox News look like a Mafia, and you get into this through Ailes, sidestepping Murdoch, not approaching the story head on.”

While Sherman works on his book, the New York Daily News recently reported that Ailes was helping conservative writer Zev Chafets fast-track a book about Ailes and the cable-news network “because he’s worried about the exhaustively reported book that New York magazine contributing editor Gabriel Sherman is writing on the same subject.” In 2010, Chafets published the praisery Rush Limbaugh: An Army of One. “Given the author’s perspective and the cooperation he’s getting, one source characterized Chafets’ book ‘as a way for Ailes to scoop Sherman,’” the Daily News write. “The depth of Sherman’s reporting has ratcheted up the 71-year-old Ailes’ anxiety levels because he’s preoccupied with his legacy these days.” The Daily News reported that Fox News has granted extensive access to Chafets, whose book is being published by Penguin’s conservative Sentinel imprint in the fall.

        • I finally cancelled HBO with the Bush head on a stick thing in Game of Thrones. I really liked Game of Thrones BUT FORGET IT NOW. I won’t even watch it on video when it comes out.

Everyone has a right to an opinion but when one network that I pay EXTRA money to each month runs with endless liberal content, left wing extremists and disrespect to ANY President of the United States that’s it. So I cancelled HBO. If those producers put the current White House resident’s head on a stick in a TV show, the freakout would be unending. Let HBO SHAREHOLDERS SUFFER for HBO executives’ desire to push their own political agendas. I’ll give my money to someone who appreciates it.

The entire media world has a left wing bias and the one channel that balances news with a conservative view as well as the left wing propaganda gets trashed. Liberals do not believe in free speech and are totally intolerant of anyone who doesn’t drink the left wing kool-aid.

I still watch Fox, and while they may exist to offset the left as objective news, they do slant right. We can’t sell Fox to liberals as centrists or objective. They will hate, NO MATTER what they see or don’t see on Fox. Most all liberals don’t even watch Fox to know what they are criticizing which is also sad, but we Republicans, Libertarians, Conservatives and what not need to just be happy Fox is there so we don’t have to spend our days rolling eyes at Maddow, and her like.

The sad fact is that Obama has not been a good president. The press has not vetted him in any meaningful way and the entertainment industry worships him as if he were a god.
Any critical examination of Obama would have easily shown he is not, was not the best man to be president.
Moreover, all criticism of the president brings the same response: “you are a racist.” For many, nothing could be further from the truth.

Bush Depression to positive economic growth with 2.5% real growth projected for this year, gotten us to be an OIL EXPORTER for the first time in 60 years; turn housing around from its Bush Crash, has gotten MANUFACTURING on the upswing, reduced the deficit in every year since Bush’s last deficit, and has been in charge while business profits and cash go to record highs.

And the “community organizer” keeps interest rates at record LOWS with 30-year mortgage rates at 3.75% , gas prices LOWER than in 2008, inflation down at its lowest level in 35 years, with bonds at record highs, and has more Mexicans LEAVING than entering the USA.

26 months of private sector job GROWTH. Obama – the Miracle Worker!

          • All wonderful but selective in your use of stats. First: there has been no job growth. The numbers are manipulated by the administration to not include those who have given up looking for work, and those who are now forever unemployed.
GM has not paid off it’s “stimulus” loan despite “dear leaders” boasting.
Obama has thrown out billions to political cronies under the guise of green energy. Yes. interest rates are artificially low because Obama has the Fed keep them that way or the economy would totally explode.
I don’t know where you live, but housing has not turned around where I am and I’ve personally taken a huge hit since Obama’s been president.
So? Answer this: are we really better off or is this part of the Obama spin machine.
Now, stop trolling sites looking for windmills to tilt at. America doesn’t buy it and if your savior is still in office after the election, be certain the Congress will be Republican.

          • 8 MILLION more people unemployed under 0bama than when he took office. The stock market is inflated by TRILLIONS being printed in fiat (worthless) paper money by the FED under the fancy name “Quantitative Easing.” 47 MILLION more people living on food stamps than when he took office. 3,000 more dead American soldiers in the wars that he “promised” to get us out of. Interest rates at the lowest levels in history — because the economy is in the crapper (0bama depression). Mexicans are LEAVING because the economy in Mexico is far better than in 0bama’s economy (when Mexico is beating you, you’ve got SERIOUS problems). Gas prices almost $1.50/gallon higher than when he took office. REAL unemployment at 12-15% (you can’t just stop counting the unemployed because they are no longer eligible for their 99-week benefits; they’re still unemployed!). Manufacturing just announced at a 3-year low. Home values are at a historical low. 0bama’s tenure has seen the highest number of foreclosures in U.S. history. That’s quite a feat.

As to your fantastical “2.5% economic growth” this year? You might want to check the CBO figures. It’s an embarrassing 1.8%. Besides, 2.5% is not something to be proud of. The numbers coming out Friday will further burst your bubble!

0bama is the biggest FAILure of a p-Resident in American history! Jimmy Carter just moved up.

          • Hard to know where to start with something so misinformed, inaccurate, so I’ll just start from the beginning. The stock market hit a high of 14,000 just before the bust and has not hit that mark since, and you say he doubled it? We have recovered roughly to the point of the summer of 2008 IN SPITE of Obama’s anti-capitalist agenda. Job losses were around 760,00/month, true. The average number of jobs created under Obama is much less than 200,000 month. On average it has been less than 150,000, which is about the number we need just to keep up with population expansion. There are fewer people working now than ever before. Only about 68% of americans are gainfully employed wich is an all-time record and keeps getting worse. Even ajusted for retirement of baby boomers it is still a record number. Bush had the Iraq mess under control before he was out of office. Obama ESCALATED in Afghanistan, more troops have been killed there than under Bush, and is only now getting around to pulling out, which by the way will never fully happen. Our MILITARY killed Osama and any American would have given that order, and NATO was the force that ousted Khadaffi who was killed by a rabid mob in the street. Obama did not save GM and Chrysler. He saved the unions and their pensioners at the expense of the bondholders. We have a total loss at chrysler in stock alone around 16 billion in addition to the 30 billion given to the unions to bail their sorry asses out. There was no Bush depression. The Bush recession lasted two quarters and was officially over 60 days after Obama took office. He did nothing to contribute to this unless you want to say he borrowed us out by doubling the federal budget, tripling the deficit to the tune of around SIX TRILLION so far and counting. Business is doing well in some sectors due mostly to the fact that productivity is at an all-time high since workers are doing more with less. The workers that were ousted at the end of the Bush era still do not have jobs, but the ones left are producing the same. Obama is merely a community organizer. He doesn’t keep interest rates anywhere. the largest private corporation in the world, the FED sets this, headed by Ben Bernanke, not Obama. By the way, Why isn’t anyone purchasing or refinancing with rates so low? WE ARE BROKE! We can’t afford to raise rates since we are already borrowing money to pay the interest on our debt. If the rate rises even 1.0% our government would be right where Greece is currently. We can’t afford to pay higher interest rates on our debt, so the rate HAS to stay low….Get it? Gas prices when Obama took office were around $1.87 on average. Don’t believe it? You either have amnesia or are dishonest. Look it up. Mexicans are still coming across the border. You are crazy if you believe that on average there are fewer coming than going. After 3.5 years of less than 3.0% growth, more people than ever not working, record numbers of people on disability, food stamps and other government programs you think he is a Miracle Worker? Dumbass!

          • Actually, the fed keeps rates low to promote borrowing it’s not because the pres says to. Obama didn’t capture Osama, seal team found him and killed him, while the pres was vacationing the military was looking for him, while the pres was golfing the military was looking for him. Obama was not responsible for capturing or killing gadhafi, he was captured and shot by libyan rebel forces. Obama has not doubled the market to record highs, the market tanked when bush was in office, it continued to tank when Obama became president. The market has shown that it is an animal of its own and will react to not only national economic events but global as well. Lastly, net job growth is not at a surplus, unemployment actually went up when the pres took office and is still over 8%. His net job growth is still negative, that means that more jobs have been lost than gained while in office. Stop regurgitating rhetoric that you hear other people tell you, it makes you appear ignorant. Do yourself a favor and do your own research, you might learn something.

          • If George Bush left office with a national debt of slightly under $10 trillion, and it is now nearly $15 trillion, doesn’t that mean that we have accumulated nearly $5 trillion in new debt since Bush left office? Yet you claim that Obama “reduced the deficit in every year since Bush’s last deficit.” If that were the case, the national debt has to be LOWER than $10 trillion, and substantially so. How do you reconcile the facts with your ludicrous claim?

            * We are STILL in Iraq
            * We are STILL in Afghanistan
            * Bin Laden, a foreign leader, was assassinated in a UNILATERAL attack WITHOUT persmission of the nation involved–violating their sovereignty, and WITHOUT a trial. If Bush had done this, you and the leftist media would be HOWLING about how AWFUL it was.

            * We are NOT a net exporter or oil–we exported more PETROLEUM PRODUCTS briefly once. According to DOE:

            Imports: 8,827,000
            Exports: 34,000
            Net Imports: 8,793,000

            * Manufacturing has just had a HUGE CONTRACTION.

            * The deficit is SKYROCKETING.

            * The president has NOTHING to do with interest rates. Prolonged low interest rates are the sign of a STAGNANT economy.

      • I invite you to give one verifiable example of ‘propaganda’ promulgated by FOX- just one. Go ahead, we’ll wait. If you EVER bothered to watch the network rather than get your information from Jon Stewart or Ed Shultz, you’d know that it employs the best journalists in the business- Ed Henry (formerly of CNN), Bret Baier, Katherine Herridge, Carl Cameron and Steve Centanni are just some of the people who report on ALL angles of a story. Of course if the information doesn’t present your dear Leader and his acrimonious leftist minions in a flattering light, I’m sure you see that as ‘propaganda’. Isn’t it curious that the multitudes of millions from across society who turn to FOX for information are blinded by ‘propaganda’ while you remain a beacon of reason and enlightenment? FOX’ viewers outnumber MSNBC by double but they can’t possibly know something you don’t, can they?

      • Not out of bounds……Just likely at least 50% horse hockey. Conservatives would not mind this kind of slanted publication, except that what seems to wind up happening is that all of the “news” outlets treat these National Enquirer style tells as obviously undeniable expose. The only beef conservatives have with Fox, and Ailes, is that we don’t have a cabal like the liberal media. If there were other TV outlets that were more clearly conservative in “bent” then maybe Fox wouldn’t be the behemoth it is. But as things are, I sure am glad, as a conservative, that they are there, and let the whiners be d****d.

      • I am grown up, Sonny. I served in the military, put myself through college, and had a 35 year career in the Electric utility business. I have never asked the government for help. Never collected unemployment, welfare, or food stamps. I understand some folks need a little help, and I don’t mind helping them out. But when HBO, like so many news organizations, tv series, movies, Hollyweird flakes, etc. does things like decapitate a former POTUS it makes me feel reassured I did the right thing in canceling my subscription to HBO. I do not care at all what the management at HBO think about any issue. Doubly so for Clooney, Penn, Maher, etal. When they begin pontificating, I turn them off, don’t buy a ticket, or cancel. I guess that makes me a terrorist, or perhaps racist to someone like you, Sonny. I know this, I do not like having ANYTHING forced upon me. I fight back!

Sure it may “lean” right, but compared to Fox, msnbc for example, more than just leans “left”. In conclusion I watch news cautiously under the experience that one network is unapologetically biased and that is MSNBC, as much as I’d like it not to be so. Proof, pudding. Go watch.

They push the “progressive agenda” but little do they realize that if the political elite get their way, HBO and others will no longer have the freedom to criticize any political group. their agenda will be very specifically defined for them. They will be told what to report and when. And if they go against the mandate, they will be either jailed or eliminated.

Like my mother always told me, be careful what you wish for.

Fox doesn’t care if you tune out, HBO *REALLY* cares when subscribers drop them.

      • @Captian…. Your condescending comments. void of an argument of the issues, is typical of the left’s response to right-leaning media. Why do you always demonize in a bigoted/racist fashion instead of just arguing your point of view? I could respond in kind, which would make me feel good and share your sense of intellectual superiority, but, alas, it isn’t worth it. You haven’t moved beyond stereotyping those who didn’t grow up on your side of the political tracks, and you can’t live with free speech when it’s the speech of the other side. Your comments keep making my point. I’m NOT for silencing your point of view and I’m not for showing prejudice and bigotry toward people on the left. I guess I would rather be on the Drudge bus than on whatever merry-go round you have chosen to ride. The issue here is HBO and if their behavior attacks the right. I think it is obvious. If you have a different opinion, why don’t you share it? You do have those freedoms, until our bus pulls out of town. After that, there may be no one to fight for individual freedom ;)

They can play the stupid cat and mouse games all they want, but the conservatives of this land know all too well the tactics of Saul Alynski and other lefties.

The only thing that’s weird about this is that if the movie aims to sock it to Fox News for being conservative leaning, then why is Joe Scarborough, a Republican, executive producing? Did he seek a spot there once and get shunned in favor of a strikingly beautiful blonde woman?

      • Well, we have… in record numbers. But it seems that, no matter how low the ratings go (witness CNN), there is a seemingly inexhaustible amount of liberal cash there to keep these vermin on the air, emitting their noxious pollution. For example, Obama gave Jeffrey Imelt an advisory position with his administration and so now he has ABC Disney in his pocket as his official media and communication arm. There is no integrity in news reporting today, other than Fox, or course.

And if you’re a lefty who still isn’t watching HBO or Showtime, here’s your chance to get off that couch, walk over to that phone, pick it up, dial that number, get out that credit card, and, oh, whatever, just sit back down and chill some more, much easier :)
