Producer Larry Thompson Shopping Sketch Comedy Pilot

Larry ThompsonProducer-manager Larry Thompson, who has his hands full at the moment with the Lindsay Lohan-starring telefilm Liz & Dick, produced by his company, is also about to take out a male-skewing sketch comedy pilot. Thompson has teamed with producer Michael Wilson (Saturday Night Live, Politically Incorrect) on the project. Wilson financed and produced the completed pilot, said to be in the vein of such sketch-comedy shows as The Kids In The Hall, The State and Monty Python’s Flying Circus and described by Wilson as a show “by guys, for guys who like sketch comedy.” The ensemble cast features performers from The Groundlings and the Second City and includes Robert Belushi, Scott Beehner, Cooper Barnes, Sitara Falcon, T’Shaun Barrett, Bruce Wexler, Jo Newman, Mark Gagliardi and Marta McGonagle. The pilot will be shopped shortly by the Gersh Agency.

  • please don’t compare your sketch comedy show to Monty Python unless you can absolutely back it up, Larry. I hope your pilot gets picked up just so I can watch and see if you’re right.

    • Almost all of these comments seem WAY too positive and gushy about how great this is…and for an unaired pilot…a LOT of people seem to have seen this already..these comments feel artificial, like they all came from the cast, or the casts friends and family…not authentic.

      • … This thing hasn’t sold yet? Every human who set eyes on the Pilot wrote in on this board to say it was amazing. As did 30 people who were at the live taping. That’s like… every single person at the live taping?

      • WOW!!!!!!!!!

I have NEVER in all my time on Deadline seen so many positive comments about anything, let alone an un-aired pilot still in free agency.

There are so many plants it’s like walking through the UCLA botanical garden.

        • Eh, seeing as there were multiple tapings, and likely many in the audience were industry and friends, it makes sense that people would be supportive and try to help out. Especially if it’s actually good.

  • I saw the taping of this pilot, and it ROCKED! Reminded me of when Saturday Night Live was great. The cast was amazing, and the guy who played Columbus was hysterical. Dam funny show. I wish them luck!

  • I saw one of the sketches on the net. A guy trying to get his girlfriend to reenact internet porn. Very funny!

  • Familiar with some of the cast, seen them perform live, some truly off-the-hook, crazy/fresh talent, cannot wait to see what they’ve put together because it’s gonna seriously rage.

  • Having attended the taping of the pilot, I confess I laughed my a#% off. I love sketch comedy, and this show is going to surprise a lot of people with its freshness, irreverence, and most of all…relevance. Watch it with your girl and see if you’re still together by the end of the show. “The Men’s Room”…gotta luv it!

  • Awesome to see this! I saw a short clip of the table read on youtube a while back. Looks really funny. I’ve seen a few of these guys at the Groundlings before. Awesome.

  • Heard all about this pilot. Sounds fresh and new and really current. And Robert Belushi is poised for a breakthrough. A perfect third compliment to John and Jim. This kid’s the real deal. The next generation of Belushi funny. For our generation.

  • I went to the taping of Men’s Room – it was funny as sh*t – some highlights: Billy Bob vs his brother, Jersey Shore hitting on widows, and the F. Murray Abraham!! Rooting for these great actors and writers!

  • I’m right there with Tim. This whole thing looks golden and I’m particularly excited to see Rob Belushi’s work. I’ve been watching his sketch work for years – and he’s one of the funniest people I’ve seen. He’s due for much bigger things. And this might just be the thing that helps spring him. Very much looking forward to seeing this go forward.
