Portia Doubleday, Judy Greer Join ‘Carrie’ Remake

EXCLUSIVE: MGM and Screen Gems have set Portia Doubleday to play bad girl Chris Hargensen and Judy Greer to play the gym teacher Miss Desjardin in the Kim Peirce-directed Carrie remake. Nancy Allen played Hargensen in the original and Betty Buckley played the sympathetic gym teacher who comforts Carrie White when she menstruates and doesn’t understand what is happening because of the guilt hammered into her by her repressive mother. Hargensen triggers Carrie’s telekinetic powers with an atrocious prom prank. The film stars Chloe Moretz as Carrie White, Julianne Moore is playing her mother, while Gabriella Wilde plays Sue Snell.

  • I am prepared to hate on this movie, but I do think the Judy Greer casting is pretty brilliant.

  • The fanboy in me was secretly hoping for Hilary Swank as the gym teacher, but Judy Greer is a wonderful choice.

As someone who is a big fan of both the original novel and the movie, I’m excited about this. There are enough differences between both for them to come up with an original take on the material. And the casting has been quite inspired thus far.

  • I don’t have a good feeling about this remake. The first one holds up….this one will have to be more than good to do business.

  • I love Judy Greer. She’s a great actress who can do comedy and drama.

  • Kim Peirce??! no offense but there are a million better choices than this director. She has barely made 2 films since Boys Dont Cry and this will movie will need someone with a strong visual style to bring home the moments Carrie snaps.
Odds against this being any good.

  • The original… The horrible sequel… The wretched tv version… Hasn’t Carrie White been through enough?!
