NBC Renews ‘Parenthood’ & ’30 Rock’

Parenthood Renewed NBCNBC is bringing back two more series: dramedy Parenthood and comedy 30 Rock. As expected, the pickup of 30 Rock will be for a seventh and final season, and it is expected to be abbreviated one, consisting of 13-14 episodes. The two join previously renewed freshmen Grimm and Smash and veteran Law & Order: SVU.

Despite flying largely 30 Rock Renewed Season 7under the radar, thanks to a big DVR play Parenthood is actually NBC’s second-highest-rated drama only behind the Voice-boosted Smash, averaging a 2.6 18-49 rating in Live+7. Meanwhile, Tina Fey’s 30 Rock is the most acclaimed NBC series currently on the air with three best comedy series Emmys among other accolades. Still awaiting word are fellow bubble shows Up All Night, which is all but certain to return; Community; as well as Whitney and Harry’s Law, both about 50-50.

  • Too many half hour sitcoms, not enough time slots for them.

    • Depends on when they premiere, no?

Is NBC done ordering new comedies, as opposed to old ones?

    • Why not? NBC could do a second night of comedy and sked 4 comedies for a total of 8 each week. Also, many of the shows are going to be for shortened seasons, and extra comedies will be stockpiled to replace those that don’t catch on and are axed.

  • This is great news for Parenthood. This truly is the one show on NBC with heart.

  • Glad to see 30 Rock is being allowed to finish their run with dignity and glad to see they’re finishing their run. Will someone now send the memo to The Office.

    • Sorry I don’t have a time machine to go back to before Steve Carell left.

  • I need a Parks & Rec renewal. I cannot understand why it has not happened yet.

  • Gosh, no love for Whitney?

I was flipping through the stations one night and TMZ, yes, TMZ, was making fun of how bad Whitney is. TMZ! One of the most ridiculous shows ever to make it to air was making fun of Whitney. And, my god, they were right on the money.

That series brings the entire network down. More than even Best Friend Forever or ALF ever did.

  • If they move Harry’s Law to a different night and time, then renew it but Whitney and Chelsea both need to be given the ax and rebrand the Wednesday night lineup as they need bigtime help in those slots. Glad Parenthood made the cut but Smash was renewed due to all the money they spent to make and market the show.
