Fox Makes ‘Playdate’ With ‘Hop’ Helmer Tim Hill

EXCLUSIVE: 20th Century Fox is making a deal to acquire Playdate, a pitch that Tim Hill and Dave Johnson will write, as a directing vehicle for Hill, who directe Hop and Alvin and the Chipmunks. The plot of the family film is being kept under wraps, but the title is somewhat self explanatory. The film will be produced by Nicky Weinstock through his Fox-based Invention Films. Hill’s repped by Gersh and Principato-Young, and Johnson by Principato-Young.

  • Hear Nicky is doing cool stuff with the Fox Writers Studio as well. Great that Fox is taking creativity seriously.

  • Dave Johnson is one of the great, undervalued comedy guys in town. Mazel!

  • Nicky is the greatest, smartest and most generous guy in this business. Fox is lucky to have him. Congrats!

  • Thank God Fox had the wisdom to make Weinstock a producing deal. Clearly they’re trying to upgrade their image in the creative community (badly needed) – and having Nicky on the lot is a great first step. A true champion of writers, a talent magnet, and a genuinely creative producer. Here’s hoping they give him some running room. Which Fox is not famous for. But worth a shot.
