NBC’s ‘Today’ Tops ABC’s ‘Good Morning America’ In Ratings For Katie Couric Week
In one of the most closely watched ratings races, NBC’s Today show topped Good Morning America last week when the ABC program had former Today star Katie Couric as guest co-host. With hyped appearances by Meredith Vieira on Monday, Sarah Palin on Tuesday, Ryan Seacrest on Wednesday and veteran host Matt Lauer announcing his new deal on Friday, Today drew 5.11 million viewers last week, up 11% from the previous week. GMA (4.90 million) got a smaller boost in viewership, up 1%. Among adults 25-54, both shows actually declined slightly. Today (2.14 million) was down 2%, GMA (1.83 million) was down 5%. GMA won Wednesday in total viewers, with the other 4 days going to Today.
no surprise. Couric is the luckiest person alive……a multi million dollar contract at CBS, big flop, lower ratings than anyone and lost viewership to the CBS evening news, and now ABC another multi million dollar contract, and we’re to belive she’s going to be the next Oprah? They cancelled the soaps for her?
I hope they don’t replace Ann with all this shuffling around.
What a patheticly depressing pissing contest this was… a bunch of people no one really cares about any longer trying to show they’re least irrelevant.
Sadly for Couric, the anger that loyal soap fans feel is going to cause her show to fail. Good, bad or indifferent, she won’t be given a chance. I liked her on Today but totally don’t care about watching her for an hour. Talk and reality might be cheaper for the networks, but all that’s done for me is give me more time in my day since I watch about half as much tv now.
How desperate were both networks to utilize stunts to get people to watch these idiotic morning shows? Couric experiment was a bust and Lauer is just an ego-maniac. As for CBS, they failed as usual.
