Jennifer Aniston Circling ‘We’re The Millers’

UPDATE: Am now being told by sources close to Jason Sudeikis that he’s more than circling the male lead as I reported below.

EXCLUSIVE: Jennifer Aniston is circling We’re The Millers, the New Line comedy about a pot dealer who pulls together a fake wife and two kids to pose as an RV road-tripping family so that he can smuggle 1000 pounds of pot cross country. Dodgeball‘s Rawson Thurber is directing. Aniston is in talks to play the fake wife, who’s actually a hooker. Her Horrible Bosses costar Jason Sudeikis is eying the role of the family patriarch (he’s the pot smuggler). The kids are juvenile delinquents. The raunchy comedy, described as a “warped Vacation,” has a script by Wedding Crashers scribes Bob Fisher & Steve Faber, and the film’s produced by David Heyman, Happy Walters, Vince Newman and Tucker Tooley, with Benderspink exec producing. Aniston is coming off Wanderlust, and she’s repped by CAA and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.

She is separately attached to star in an an untitled comic heist thriller written and to be directed by Justin Theroux. Aniston, Theroux and Jerry Weintraub are producers. Aniston and Theroux became a couple after they worked together on Wanderlust.

  • Not a slam, but Jen should give up this half-assed, half-baked shit and search out a really smart, good HBO or Showtime series. 2 years from now she might not be able to get one. As a previous poster pointed out, these movies really do blend together and she becomes less and less valuable by the day.

    • I wholeheartedly agree. Still she doesn’t seem to have the temerity to go back to TV either. It’s far too easy to pick up a paycheck to do the same old same old which may in fact strike the gold or simply be forgotten then to risk failing on the small screen which would be the death knell for her career.

  • She really needs something fresh to give her career a good kick. Something small without box office expectations where she can just act.

  • I read she’s doing The Switch. And Miss You Already. Now she’s doing We’re the Millers. Does anyone know in what order she’s doing these films? Looks like she’ll be working all of 2012 and into 2013.

  • All those going on about how she needs to pick something different: she has. She just signed on and is about to film two very different projects. The first is the Untitled Elmore Leonard Project which is a crime action drama with Denis Quaid, John Hawkes and Ty Burrell. It’s set to start shooting in May. The other is Miss You Already, a dramedy about a friendship that becomes strained when one friend becomes pregnant and the other ill. It’s set to start shooting in June in London and her co-star is rumored to be Toni Collette. If she does take We’re the Millers on, it sounds like this is more Horrible Bosses then traditional rom-com, and certainly gives her a chance to play against type again while still being a comedy, which she has a talent for. Nothing much is yet known about the Untitled Justin Theroux Project aside from it being a comedy heist film, so until we know more, it’s hard to say whether that would be a departure for her or not.

    • Thank you. Finally someone who makes some good points. Aniston has a bunch of different projects on her slate that are different than some of the rom coms. But you know if she picked something serious they’d all bitch about how it was a crass attempt at an Oscar and who does she think she, stick to comedies you old blah, blah blah.

I feel like this site has become some sort of creepy Celebitchy or something, always snarking with crap like “you’re not getting any younger.” You know they don’t say that shit about any of the male actors in Hollywood or make a big stink when one of their films bombs. See Matt Damon and the $150 million bath they took on The Green Zone for example. Or the fact that Johnny Depp has played one character in the last 700 movies.

Aniston seems like a decent person and she’s not really far up her own ass the way half of Hollywood seems to be so I don’t really get the insane hate for her. She has talent. She was great in The Good Girl and Friends with Money, but I’m not so sure about her agents. I saw an interview with her recently where she basically said they want her to do is rom coms until the end of time. I understand wanting to trust Huvane, he’s a huge agent, but she might want to think about getting rid of him if these next projects don’t work for her.

      • So agree with you: people like to hate on her for some reason and they choose whatever they can grasp at to do so. The same people who complain about her “always choosing romantic comedies” fail to acknowledge that none of the films she’s currently linked to are in fact rom-coms, nor were her last two projects (because even Wanderlust was more broad ensemble comedy than traditional rom-com). I’m looking forward to her two indie-type projects and hoping they are well written and offer her something different and more in line with Good Girl, Friends With Money, etc. It’s been too long since she did a project like those. We’re the Millers also sounds like it has the potential to give her some good comedic bits to work with. Too often her comedy talent and timing is wasted when she chooses rom-com roles, so hopefully this will be more like her turn in Horrible Bosses, which is what it sounds like.

    • It isn’t likely she’s shooting one film in May and another in June since the first would still be shooting. I’m curious how many of the 4 films that her people have sent out releases about actually end up getting made.

      • Why is someone always accusing that “her people have sent out releases” where Aniston is concerned? You’re on Deadline, a site devoted to breaking industry news, what do you expect to read here? Aniston’s people don’t have to send out any release whatsoever as film casting is industry news, and anything about Aniston is news.

However, for We’re the Millers all sites are reporting she’s in talks and that she’s currently more the hold out. It isn’t a done deal until she signs and apparently she’s had an offer for a couple of weeks. But regarding Miss You Already and the Untitled Elmore Leonard Project, both film’s directors have spoken publicly about her involvement. MUA’s director has confirmed her involvement and said shooting starts in London in June. UELP’s director has confirmed her involvement and other sites have stated it starts shooting in May (yet to be confirmed though).

It’s entirely possible she could be involved in both and those start dates are correct: she could shoot UELP from beginning of May to mid or late June before going straight into MYA. UELP is an ensemble piece so she won’t be needed for the entire shoot and her parts could be shot first.

  • Poor Jason Sudeikis. Doesn’t he realize that Jennifer Aniston is an incubus that will suck the life force out of him like she does all her male co-stars?

How many more “straight-to-airline” Jennifer Aniston movies do we need to suffer through before somebody sends in a priest to put an end to her evil plans?

  • Looks like Aniston’s paid posters are here. Get real folks. Aniston is a mediocre actress who got lucky when she hooked up with Brad. She is a box office poison. Let’s see if this movie and all her “upcoming” projects being sent by her PR just to prop up her ego will see the light of day. After her FLOP, Wanderlust, I doubt studios will be spending money on all her shit. She should just retire and be done with it.

  • Aniston signs usually several projects, and most of her movies are low cost and should not take too long to be filmed. They do not require much physically (always the same hair, costumes) and artistic productions are without risk … And speaking serious i hate these comedians Sandler, Stiller, Paul Rud ….. but these people always have a lot of work ….For me Aniston is unlikely to be in a big production of BIG directors or something epic, a project to be expensive ….

  • Can’t she act in anything age appropriate ? Not that I would see it. She just does the same part to death
