Industry Adds Stephen Crawford, Ava Jamshidi To Manager Stable

EXCLUSIVE: Literary manager Stephen Crawford and former ICM agent Ava Jamshidi have joined the Literary Department at Industry Entertainment Partners as managers. Crawford most recently handled the lit side of Luber/Roklin Ent. All his clients are expected to follow. Crawford started his career at Industry Entertainment as an assistant.

Jamshidi has spent the last 6 years at ICM in the Motion Picture Literary Department. She also spearheaded the agency’s comic book and graphic novel division. Jamshidi began her career at APA.

In a statement, the Industry Partners said: “We are thrilled to have both Ava and Steve join Industry Entertainment. Ava was a well respected agent with a great eye for identifying talent and intellectual properties, and we look forward to launching her career in management. We welcome Steve back; he’s an accomplished manager with a terrific client list. Both Ava and Steve’s clients and sensibilities will fit perfectly with Industry’s existing client roster of high end literary talent.”

  • Ava isn’t just smart (extremely) and unfailingly polite (how rare is that?) but she actually digs movies and knows a crapload about film history. In other words, she can talk to you about Ford, Hawks and Hitchcock and has actually seen “The Third Man.”

You can roll your eyes if you want to (moron) but what I just said is crucial: Trends in storytelling are eternal and they always… ALWAYS… swing back around again.

Industry picked themselves a winner this month.

  • I wish all reps would take a cue from Crawford in the way he refuses to shovel crap scripts around; his name on a script indicates a certain level of quality, a trait that seems to be getting rarer and rarer these days.

  • Uh I may not know the ins and outs of these things but how many of Jamshidi’s clients can or will follow her? I’m just assuming most of them would have already had managers, etc…

    • “Uh”. If you don’t know the in’s and out’s of these things, don’t reply to the thread. Ava is an educated, engaged and involved film lover — an excellent representative with great standards, notes and taste. Stop pretending you understand the business if you’ve never met her.

      • Uh, I’m freely admitting to NOT knowing the business, that’s why I’m asking! And it’s why I’m asking on a thread like this where I figure someone actually does know. I have no doubt Jamshidi is a terrific rep and didn’t mean to imply otherwise, I’m just curious about the logistics of the agenting to managing transition.

        • I am, for instance. Didn’t have/want a manager in addition to agents and lawyer, but now keeping Ava on as a manager because she’s awesome. Also staying with ICM.

  • Had a very high profile client who was referred to Mr. Crawford. Assistant was extremely rude and unprofessional and sounded like they where on drugs. Decided not to pursuit business with Mr. Crawford.
