BET Renews Comedy Series ‘The Game’ And ‘Let’s Stay Together’
EXCLUSIVE: I hear that BET has quietly renewed its flagship comedy series The Game for a sixth season (third on the cable network), and the Queen Latifah-produced sophomore Let’s Stay Together for a third. The pickups, which I hear are for 22 episodes, are not official yet and are expected to be announced at BET’s upfront presentation on Thursday. Additionally, I hear that BET is mulling a renewal of freshman comedy Reed Between The Lines. BET, whose current foray into scripted comedy series started an year and a half ago with the pickup of The Game after it had been canceled by the CW, is quickly expanding its portfolio. In addition to the three existing original series, the network is in pre-production on hourlong pilot Being Mary Jane starring Gabrielle Union and sitcom Young Man On Campus starring Jacob Latimore, which originated as an episode of Reed this past
season. In growing its scripted business, BET has relied on two key players, Mara Brok Akil, creator/executive producer of both The Game and Being Mary Jane, and Jacque Edmonds, creator/executive producer of Let’s Stay Together and Young Man On Campus and executive producer of Reed. After launching on BET with staggering 7.7 million viewers to rank the top-rated ad-supported sitcom broadcast in cable history, The Game‘s most recent season premiered with impressive 5.3 million viewers. Let’s Stay Together‘s second season opened with 3.5 million viewers vs. 4.4 million for the series premiere, while Reed premiered behind the 2011 Hip-Hop Awards with two back-to-back episodes averaging 3.3 million and 2.9 million viewers, respectively.
Yessss!
Out of the three shows here only The Game is worth watching. Let’s Stay Together is not a very good show and Reed Betwen the Lines need better writers because that show has some potential but just not living up to expectations.
I disagree. I absolutely love the show Let’s stay together. It is my second favorite show. It’s refreshing to have a show about a bunch of professionals that doesn’t use profanity, doesn’t have excessive drinking, and partying. It is a breath of fresh air for a change.
But, that’s why they have a variety of shows. Because not everyone enjoy everything.
I do enjoy The Game, but the excessive profanity and boozing is getting old. Surely my ppl can get together to enjoy one another with all all of the that…just saying.
This is some of the WORST television ever produced….but they do know their audience….can’t fault success…tv fortunes in this town are built on ratings not quality.
Bring back Brittney Daniel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AWESOME!!! SO glad to see Let’s Stay Together returning!
The Game is aight, the storylines is like a yo-yo, constantly up & down. Sometimes its good & other times it’s a yawn. Lets Stay Together has gotten better. Reed Between the Lines is horrible, Tracey Ellis Ross is not mom material, replacement is very necessary.
The Game is the only show I watch. The others are terrible.
These shows are part of the reason black entertainment has such a bad stigma. BET has ruined The Game and it is by far their best show, which says nothing. Please BET, hire better writers, get fresher ideas, and stop modeling your 2012 shows off what was hot in the 90′s. Lets Stay Together is less fresh and funny as Martin and Living Single. It’s called evolution. Try it.
How can they be mulling a renewal of Reed Between the Lines when it’s been announced that one of it’s stars, Tracey Ellis Ross, has signed on to a network pilot?
Look what they have on BET now is awesome compared to the wannabe MTV crap they had on b4. Decent shows for decent ppl.
