Joy Behar To Leave HLN At End Of Year

EXCLUSIVE: I have learned that Joy Behar will leave HLN at the end of the year. Behar, who has hosted her primetime talk show on the CNN sibling since 2009, is in the final year of her contract there. She has done well on HLN, where her The Joy Behar Show is the second-highest-rated behind Nancy Grace. “It just felt it was time for everyone,” an insider said. Comedian-writer-actress Behar will continue as a co-host of ABC’s The View, where she is under a long-term deal, while also exploring new opportunities, possibly within HLN’s parent company Turner Broadcasting. At HLN, Behar was one of two anchors to juggle a primetime cable talker and a daytime show, along with Grace, who left the syndicated Swift Justice this past summer to focus on her HLN program.

  • So glad to see her go with her ultra biased liberal views

    • So, you’re saying that plain biased or even just liberal would be ok? Or do you really prefer ultra biased right wing? Just asking.

      • You are right. Conservatives need to stick with hating a particular group of people. Liberals are the only people who hate EVERYBODY, including themselves.

      • Is this based on experience, or is it just that you hate conservatives?

      • I am a conservative Christian, and I don’t hat any of the groups you mentioned. If I had to name somebody(other than Satan) that I hate—I’d have to say that it is people who claim to practice diversity and tolerance, when they poo poo other people’s views and actually practice intolerance.

  • I guess doing “well” is subjective when you are only considering her rank amongst other hosts on HLN. Her ratings suck.

  • More like Joy Behar Fleeing HLN at end of year; you get the sense from her topics she tries her best to stay far, far away from what the rest of the network is covering, but has to throw it in to make the executives happy. Plus her guests hardly want to talk about the next It Trial, if they want to go on anymore because of HLN’s awful reputation.

That network is going to just crash hard once they being to see why Court TV dumped their overabundance on trials to fill a broadcast day; not everything is a Casey Anthony or Conrad case. Most of the time it’s State of North Carolina vs. Killer McMostobviousever. Plus eventually somebody who is accused of a crime and is proven innocent is going to call Nancy and Co. on their needless harping and libel.

  • She’s insulting, gross, and low class. Glad she’s not going to be taking up important air time. We deserve better.

  • Good riddance! She’s got to be one of the most ignorant and annoying talk show hosts on television—she’s right up there with HBO’s obnoxious boor, Bill Maher.

  • I’m sorry to see Joy leave the show–which was a place I could go if I wanted to see a real interview with various guests who appeared on The View. There’s no way to get a thought completed on The View with all the interruptions, crosstalk, and interruptions. Let’s hope Turner finds something perfect for her. She’s one smart cookie.

Comment by BimboKay — Wednesday November 16, 2011 @ 6:22pm PST  Reply to this post
    • What are you talking about? Joy NEVER lets a guest finish answering a question before SHE interrups them. That’s why I stopped watching. You don’t have to be right wing to think she is a stale cookie–just under 50 years old.

  • …and cans omeone define “has done well?” She’s always at or near the ratings cellar for chrissake!

    Ratings for November 14, 2011:

FNC ON THE RECORD W/GRETA 1,669,000
    MSNBC L. ODONNELL 766,000
    CNN Anderson Cooper 360 565,000
    HLN Joy Behar 326,000
    CNBC AMERICAN GREED 165,000

Comment by AaronSch — Wednesday November 16, 2011 @ 6:27pm PST  Reply to this post
    • Not only that, she’s often third or fourth on HLN. Where do you get your facts, Nellie? From Joy herself?

Issues with Jane Velez-Mitchell often beats her… and Dr. Drew, who’s show is lousy and a flop, nevertheless beats her frequently too.

Regardless, Behar’s ratings are hugely down from Nancy Grace… like not even close… and also a lot lower than Glenn Beck got when he was at HLN.

They wouldn’t be letting her go if she were doing well.

She’s a FAILURE by any measure at HLN.

Comment by Hank — Wednesday November 16, 2011 @ 10:24pm PST  Reply to this post
      • Last night’s 25-54 ratings at HLN:

        Issues with Jane Velez-Mitchell: 109
        Nancy Grace: 244
        Dr. Drew: 96
        Joyless Behar: 77

Last night’s total viewers at HLN:

        Issues with Jane Velez-Mitchell: 507
        Nancy Grace: 711
        Dr. Drew: 367
        Joyless Behar: 391

And that’s considered doing “well,” Nellie?

And this is pretty reflective of how these shows perform relative to each other.

      • Joy beat Larry King in the ratings in the 9pm timeslot. I love her show, but the move to 10pm may have hurt her. I think she is an excellent interviewer and people always seem comfortable opening up to her. All I know is she crushed Larry King, an icon, when she was on at 9pm. I’ll bet Joy gets another opportunity somewhere. She got some cream of the crop guests too. And she’s funny. They may also know political season is right around the corner with no politically oriented show on HLN.
