Superman Close To Landing His Villainess?

EXCLUSIVE: I’m told that German actress Antje Traue is the frontrunner to join Michael Shannon as the major villains of the Zack Snyder-directed Superman film Man of Steel. Since Shannon is playing General Zod, might Traue be playing his accomplice, Ursa, who appeared in the first two Superman films? Traue starred with Ben Foster and Dennis Quaid in Pandorum, and she is currently in Sweden shooting the Peter Flinth-directed Nobels Testament. Traue has been in the hunt for a big studio role. She tested for The Rite, which went to Alice Braga, and also met Marc Forster to play Brad Pitt’s character’s wife in World War Z, a role that went to The Killing star Mireille Enos. She is repped by Greene & Associates, Spielkind in Germany and UK’s Troika.

  • Well, if this is true losing that role to Alice Braga turned out to be a blessing. I wish Alice would also do a big studio movie that’s not total crap or flop.

    • Agreed. Braga already had so many studio/tentpole roles… Why hasn’t she become a name yet?

  • The rumored villainess is said to be FAORA, a comic book character Kryptonian.

    • Yes, that is what I read as well. “URSA” was based on FAORA (who appeared in the comics in 1977) but URSA was created solely for “SUPERMAN II.” FAORA would be a nod from the filmmakers to the original source material. However URSA has existed in the DC COMICS universe following her appearance in SUPERMAN II.

Unfortunately I wish they had gone with Braniac or Darkseid — something a bit more colorful. We’ve already seen Zod, both on the big screen and in Smallville. The choice of Zod doesn’t make this seem like a truly original take on the material, but rather a remake of SUPERMAN II — which was already the problem with SUPERMAN RETURNS.

    • i hope it is, and not ursa. she was made specifically for the first two superman films, and zack snyder has said that “man of steel” will be a reboot in the same concept as “batman begins”-in that it will ignore past superman films.

      • Never read any comics. Boy, for a seemingly boring mousy guy Superman seems to have a lot of villains.

  • Who? Where is the fecking big name in this movie that is supposed to sell tickets?! Hell, somebody over there needs to pull their head out of their ass before this floundering ship completely sinks. Have you SEEN Cavill’s acting in the IMMORTALS trailer?! Dear G-d. Humiliating.

      • Nope, bot Singer here, but I do agree – that is what Singer thought. He was right. Brandon Routh was unknown and he was a Superman that pulled in $400 million. I just don’t see that Kevin Spacey or Kate Bosworth had much to do with that. I don’t even think Routh had much to do with it. Superman, however, did. Christopher Reeve was not a “name”. Gene Hackman was well known, but he is not the reason that the series is so well known and loved. Superman is. Henry Cavill will be no different. This movie will be huge (especially without 10 years of budget baggage that is not Snyder’s fault) and Cavill will do a good job. Some are going to complain no matter what happens. Those people, thankfully, do not matter.

        • As you yourself point out here, Snyder is putting a ceiling on how well his film will do. Everyone now KNOWS how much the Superman name is worth. If his film does less than $400 million (plus 3D inflation), it is because Snyder TOOK VALUE AWAY FROM THE NAME and his career at Warners is certainly over, and finding sympathy at other studios will be very hard. There can be no clearer indication that he screwed up massively, because everyone KNOWS the bottom line. And yet, still Snyder does not have one genuine ticket selling star to budge off the threshold Singer found.

  • As General Zod and Faora will be in Man of Steel, they have to include Non, Ursa, Quex-Ul, Nam-Ek and Aethyr-Ka.
